Movie Night At Work ?

I really do love where I work!

At least once per year, for the past few years anyway, Progressive has sponsored an outdoor movie presentation in the courtyard between our North and South buildings.  There is always lots of snacky food (cotton candy, popcorn, sno cones, sodas, etc.) and the movie being played on the big inflatable screen is a recent DVD release.

Obviously when my whole family comes that adds a LOT of people to the attendance sheet.  An amusing commentary on that is that our RSVP notification allowed room to list 5 guests per employee.  I joked with one of my peers at work about which kids don't get to come.  She offered a unique solution ... she signed up to bring my "other" kids (which I am sure looked amusing in the sign-up list).

The weather was absolutely PERFECT for the movie (we've had a lot of rain lately, but none tonight) and the leaders who staffed the various food and face-painting-type booths were all so kind and friendly.

Thanks Progressive for caring about my family and giving me a great chance to show them how awesome my employer is!

I am afraid I may have featured the song "Movies" by Alien Ant Farm in a previous blog post.  That said, I love the tune and it fits with the post today so I guess we'll just have to accept a repeat viewing if that is the case.

Is There A Murphy's Law At The Movies ?

Yesterday morning, nice and early, I went to a local Wal-Mart to wait in line to purchase tickets to a special advance screening of the new Superman movie coming out this summer.  I arrived a little later than I planned, about 6:15am, but there were only two people ahead of me in line ... and they were my recently married friends Greg and Erin.

It was almost 7:30am before the next individual, who was not part of our super-eager group, arrived.  In that sense, we wasted about an hour of time by being there that early.  Sadly, this has become more of a regular occurrence as related to waiting in line for movies, or tickets for movies.

On the contrary, whenever I have decided not to start waiting so early for movie-related things, I end up being much further back in the line than I thought I would.

I just can't seem to get it right!

So I'm wondering if this is the same kind of Murphy's Law that applies to a variety of other scenarios.  A few examples would include the lane of traffic I select on a busy highway or the check-out line I decide to wait in at the grocery store.
I think I'm one of those people who always seems to pick the wrong line, lane, or time.

The video to this song by Alien Ant Farm is just a great one to watch if you can spare the time, with lots of nods to the history of cinema.  The song "Movies" came to mind this morning as I waited in a line that shouldn't have been started nearly as early as it formed.  It was still fun hanging out with some friends I don't see as often as I'd like, which made it worthwhile no matter how tired I was.  :)

What's Up My Brother ?!

I have two awesome brothers from my family of origin.  And then several brothers-in-law, brothers in the church, and also a few "bros" of choice.  I honestly love them all and enjoy the time I get to spend with each of them in a variety of activities.

In the past few days, I've had the great opportunity to spend a lot more time with my older brother Jeremy.  Despite his stature being shorter than mine, I still look up to him in many ways.  He is a much better brother and uncle than I could ever hope to be.  He has such patience and love for my siblings and my own children.

A few nights ago he treated me to an evening at the movies for a special RiffTrax event (which is basically MST3K as a live broadcast show across theaters throughout the nation).  The movie was so bad that the riffers didn't even have to say much to have us in stitches.  It.  Was.  Awesome!  And even better because we had each other to share the humor with.

Then this evening, Jeremy enjoyed my family's annual "Groundhog Day" movie tradition with us (as well as dinner before and a game of Dominion afterward).  It was a very fun evening and I'm so glad he was willing to hang out with us old married folks!  :)

Song Of The Day:
There are several songs about brothers, family, love, admiration, etc. but for tonight I'm just picking a favorite tune that happens to be titled "Brother"  It is by Toad the Wet Sprocket and was on the soundtrack to "So I Married An Axe Murderer."  I always think of my older brother Jeremy when I hear the song because we both enjoyed the humor in that movie and the song is pretty good too.

Why did I watch this movie AGAIN ?!

Instead of hearing "Willow, you idiot" (when he turned Raziel into a goat) I heard "Josh you idiot! The movie was pretty stupid the first time back in the late 80s ... you thought it would be better now?! you IDIOT!"
