Where Is Everybody ?

Yesterday evening I had the opportunity to attend an Air Force Academy football game.  The opponent was Wyoming (whose uniforms were actually much better than the last time I saw them play decades ago).

I say "opportunity" because I had won 2 tickets (including some food vouchers) from a special giveaway at my work.  I also say "opportunity" in the slightly sarcastic sense that ... to the right is a picture of the whole group that came to attend the game.  20 tickets were given away.  Throughout the game, I saw only two other people in our section from work.

Oh well ... it was an exciting game for a little while (the home team began to lose very badly midway through the second quarter) but the late start (8:30pm MDT) and cold weather caused my buddy Tony and I to call it quits before it was all said and done.

Song Of The Day:
I am sure many people have actually heard this Bonus Track single title "All By Myself" which was at the very end of the Dookie album by Green Day.  I remember letting the CD play on repeat shuffle in my room in Greeley, CO.  The music stopped eventually (or so I thought) but I was so busy doing whatever I was doing (probably arranging my hats on the wall) that I didn't notice.  That is, until I started to hear this song begin to play.  The irony of timing was not lost on me then.  I laughed and laughed.  Good one boys, good one!

What Do You Collect ?

As a child I remember being fascinated, at different times, with rocks, dinosaurs, He-Man or GI Joe action figures, coins, baseball cards, and hats (baseball style, not like "fashion" kinds).  At some point, each of those collections was either passed on to a neighbor or younger sibling, or were traded for a new collection or simply discarded when I realized I didn't like those things any longer.

But the urge to have a "collection" of things certainly didn't go away.  I'm betting you still collect things too.

Without even really intending to do so, my wife and I have begun to collect wind chimes.  Below are some pictures of our collection (so far), most of which have been gifted to us from our good friend Tony (who has had to travel lots for his occupation).

To be fair, some of these are not really wind chimes, but they are in that category because they are "hanging decorations" and I don't know what else to call them.  Our office in our home is filled with these and they really lend to the tropical island theme.  I look forward to adding more to our collection (we plan to buy one for each cruise or tropical vacation we take).

So what do you collect?  And why did you start collecting those?

Song Of The Day:
When I look at these wind chimes in our office, I am reminded of the carefree lifestyle that comes with tropical vacations.
The song "No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems" by Kenny Chesney just seems like a perfect fit.  The notes just drip off the guitar and KC's slow southern drawl just oozes relaxation.  Ahhhhh.

So do you want some tickets?

Today was marked by two calls from two lovely women offering tickets to two different events that I (and at least some members of my family) would like to go to.

The first was the loveliest of all lovely ladies: my sweet wife Karen.  She was calling to inform me that she saw on another friend's Facebook page that they were selling AFA vs BYU football tickets for $5.  I was very excited and told her to get 5 tickets (will you be one of the lucky invitees?).  After some research she was able to get 5 tickets and so on September 11th (what a day for a game huh?  I bet the opening national anthem, etc. is going to be AWESOME!) @ 2:00pm my boys and I (along with two special guests) will get to see possibly the last football game between the Cougars (likely going independent in football) and the Falcons.

The second call was actually to Karen's cell phone but I answered 'cause it was our good friend Mindy who is lovely in her own right and just perfect for her husband Tony who is sadly away in Hawaii (no really it is sad) for work.  I love to pick on her by answering Karen's phone and saying "Karen's phone!"  It freaks her out because then she thinks she dialed my number but the deep voice says "Karen's Phone!" ... good times.  Anyway, it turns out that she just received 6 tickets to either Wednesday or Thursday night's Sky Sox (AAA affiliate of the Colorado Rockies) game.  She and her family can't go because they have swim lessons so she wanted to offer the tickets to us.  We have plans for Thursday and Friday night (and later I got a call from another friend and we'll be getting together with our "game night" friends on Saturday) ... but we had no set plans for tomorrow night.  So I graciously accepted the tickets and now we've got the rest of the week planned.  Yay!

Now if only someone would call and offer me the winning lottery ticket I'll have the trifecta of ticket victories!  Uh oh ... I just had a thought ... I better drive very carefully because my 3rd ticket might be for speeding.  :)
