What Do You Think Of The New Master Bedroom ?

I've already blogged about my "To Do List" while I was a temporary bachelor.  But as yet, I was unable to share photos of the main project on that list: painting our master bedroom.

Karen hasn't really been after me to get the room painted, but we've been in the home for over three years now and have lived with a green wall speckled with gold-leaf like foil spots, off-set with white walls filled with holes from nails and screws.

Bottom line: It was time for a change.

So herewith are the pictures, before and after as best as I could manage.  I can post them tonight and then will wait a few days to post the blog and link to Facebook (since Karen gets home tomorrow evening and I want her to see it first).

I do not have pictures of the new room set-up, but the bed is now framed by the bay window, where it was against the green and gold speckled (flaky) wall before.  The new layout is much more open and feels like we have a LOT more space (we even have a reading chair in the room now!)  If you want to see it, come on by!  I'd be happy to show it off (especially the perfect tape lines between walls!)  :)


Song Of The Day:
I truly love my sweet wife and have missed her while she has been gone this past week. It was easier to paint with her and the kiddos gone, but I thought of her (and her anticipated reaction) while I spent many hours painting, taping, re-painting, touching up, and then rearranging the room.
To my Pretty Lady, it is true that I would do "Anything For You" (even though Gloria Estefan's song by the same name is more about lost love, the title certainly applies here!)

Is It Like This EVERY Friday Night ?

I wouldn't say that my wife and I never go out to dinner.  I also wouldn't say we go out all the time.  I would probably guess we eat out (sit-down, fast food, etc.) probably 1-2 times per week.  This usually happens on Mondays for lunch (because it is one of my days off) with a sprinkling of evenings here and there.

I guess we never really go out to each much on Friday nights because tonight it was CRAZY busy no matter where we tried to go.

I made the mistake of assuming that since yesterday was Valentine's Day, most people would have just gone out to eat last night so they would be less likely to eat out tonight.
Now I know ... big error in planning on my part.

Song Of The Day:
I know you're already guessing that the song is Last Friday Night by Katy Perry ... but you're wrong!  I don't actually like that song in the least bit.  Instead, we're going back for a classic from the 80's ... "Friday, I'm In Love" by The Cure is a pure 80's song and has long been one of my favorites.  So on this special Friday (Engagement Day 2013) let the world know that I am, in fact, in love - still - with my sweetheart!  Love you Pretty Lady!

Isn't It Always Better Together ?

I am an introvert by nature.  This may surprise some people who know me only in certain settings (at work, on the basketball court, in church, during scouting events, etc.) because my outward energy often seems to be more full in larger group settings.

Truth be told, I revel in "alone time."  Sure I enjoy being around other people and most often that does boost my energy level, but it also drains me in a way I cannot really explain.  Some days it is just too much and I long for an hour or two where I am just by myself with no responsibility to anyone else.

With that in mind, I have to say that there is one person who I am almost never happy to be "alone" from.  And that's my awesome wife and best friend Karen!

I call her my "Pretty Lady" (which is a nickname whose origin will likely be a future blog post) and she just calls me "Handsome."

We actually get to see each other all the time, but we almost never seem to have enough "us" time.  Just time to talk about life ... and our hopes, dreams, fears, and random experiences we've had since we last got to just hang out together.  I realized how much I was missing this time in this past week and was grateful for the opportunity we had a few days ago to just "be together" without everything clamoring for our attention (kids, work, extended family, house, cars, etc.)

I love and appreciate you my beautiful bride!  Looking forward to "hanging out" again real soon!  :)

I think my mom introduced me to Jack Johnson's music, but regardless of where my love of his music originated, he remains one of my favorite soft-rock styled artists.  His song **"Better Together" always reminds me of time spent with my sweetheart.  It is always better together with you my love!

You Want Me To Punch You ?

That was the question my sweet wife asked me during a conversation we had this very morning.  And she meant it in the nicest possible way.  She was actually trying to help me and oddly enough, it was a considerate offer.
Allow me to elaborate ...

It all started this morning (very early for a non-school, non-work day I might add) when she and I plus Brooklyn, Savannah, and little Spencer went to the eye doctor.  Spencer just tagged along because at less than two months his eyes are of no real concern yet.

Long story as short as I can make it without leaving out important details, we all got our eyes dilated during our exams.  I don't know about you, but I HATE getting my eyes dilated.  But I almost never say "No" when they ask because it's like once every year or two so I figure I ought to do it.  Anyway, the worst part is that it always takes like 3-6 hours before you can see things up close again (and it's also super bright!)

A little while after we got home, something caused Karen to tear up (the emotions are always interesting for the first few months after a newborn baby).  After she wiped away the tears she commented that they seemed to help her see better (perhaps the saltiness of the tears affects the dilation?)  And when I looked at her to confirm she was seeing better she asked me the Blog Title Question.  Her thought was that maybe I'd cry if she punched me.  So it wasn't an angry offer, but one of love.  :)

I love that woman!

Song Of The Day:
So in honor of my awesome wife I wanted to share one of my favorite Colbie Caillat songs.  We saw her in concert a few years ago at the Colorado State Fair and it was a great date night!  This song was from her first album and never released as a single, but it always makes me think of my beautiful wife and how we are "Tailor Made" for each other.  I love you Pretty Lady!

Why haven't I seen THIS movie sooner?!

Wow! What a ride! I'll have to check with my all-knowing brother Jeremy on this one but I just loved the film!

I fell in love with the "secret love song" (Come What May) many years ago when I heard it on the soundtrack CD my brother-in-law had. Just a darn good song and two great singers (well okay, NK was not great but Ewan has some impressive sound!)

Until tonight I had never gotten around to watching the film, but after last night's debacle (that my beautiful wife made me sit through) I had to give the film industry a chance at redemption. We can at least be friends again Hollywood.

My favorite part of the movie (besides the love song of course) was all the songs that were worked into the movie. So creative to fit so many songs in with homages to great entertainers of almost all ages. Karen didn't know all of them but I caught every ... single ... one. And laughed as they continued speaking as though it wasn't about to be a song.

Secretly my goal will be to get Karen to learn NK's part of the song and perhaps we can do a duet at our 20th wedding anniversary ... eh, she probably would rather do "Willow" quotes. :) Just kidding Pretty Lady ... but I will always love you Come What May!
